Judiciary
AN Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 42-year-old man, Festus Nwaegela, at the Kirikiri custodial facility for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl.
Chief Magistrate, O. A. Layinka, ordered that Nwaegela be kept at the facility pending advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions.
The court did not take the plea of Nwaegela.
Layinka, however, adjourned the case until April 2, for mention.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihieme, had told the court that the suspect committed the offence on Dec. 18, 2023, at Tejuosho Federal Road, Ebute Metta, Lagos State.
Ihieme alleged that the defendant sexually assaulted the minor by penetrating her anus.
The alleged offence contravenes Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
