Man, 57, remanded for allegedly defiling 16-year-old girl

AN Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 57-year-old man, Rasheed Yusuf, in a correctional centre for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl.

The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, who did not take Yusuf’s plea, ordered the police to duplicate the case file and send same to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

Kubeinje adjourned the case until Nov. 5 for DPP’s advice.

The defendant, who resides at  Illupeju area of Lagos, is facing a one-count charge of defilement.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. John Iberedem, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between July 28 and Sept. 22 at no 36, Illupeju road, Illupeju, Lagos.

Iberedem said that the defendant lured the girl, a co-tenant, into his room and forcefully had canal Knowledge of her.

He said that the defendant was caught by some neighbours who handed him over to the police.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015. (NAN)
