Man arraigned for allegedly breaking into telecommunication site to steal

A 51-year-old man, Olabode Olusegun, on Tuesday appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for allegedly breaking into a base station of a telecommunication company with intention to steal.

The police charged the defendant, whose address was not provided, with burglary, stealing and conspiracy.

The Prosecutor, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and others still at large, committed the offences on Dec. 9, 2022, at 2.45 a.m., at the IHS mast site at Baba Kwara area, Iloye, Ota.

Adaraloye said that defendant and his accomplices conspired to break and enter into the IHS mast site with the intention to steal.

The prosecutor said that they were caught by vigilante group and handed over to the police.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 413, 415 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Adeyemi, granted bail to the defendant in the sun of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

Adeyemi ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government. (NAN)
