A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced 24-year-old Haruna Garba to two months imprisonment for trespass and attempted theft.
Garba, a resident of Kinkinau, Kaduna State, had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of trespassing on private property and attempted to steal.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, however, gave him an option to pay N5,000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crime.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, had told the court that Abubakar Isah,of Constitution Road, Kaduna, reported the case at the Gabasawa Police Station, Kaduna, on Feb. 12.
According to Leo, the complainant reported that the convict entered his compound, used a scissors to cut his window net and tried to gain entry into the house.
The prosecutor further stated that the convict was, however, arrested by members of a vigilance group who saw him.
Leo said that when the convict was interrogated at the police station, he could not give satisfactory explanation of what he was doing there.
He noted that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 348 and 95 of the Penal Code.(NAN)
