AS the English Premier League, EPL 2020-2021 season kicks off on Saturday, September 12, many football fans in Nigeria are expecting a thrilling football season. Some of the fans believe that it will not be an easy season for the defending champions, Liverpool FC.

A survey conducted by Realnews on the performance of the clubs in the new season and which club will emerge as the champions. Showed that some football fans believe that the new season will be one of the toughest seasons to predict with Manchester City, Chelsea FC, Arsenal FC, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, and even Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton FC ready to challenge Liverpool FC for the title.

A Chelsea FC supporter, Micheal Okoro, said that he was excited that Chelsea was able to sign some new players. “In as much as I love my club, I don’t think we are going to win the league now. The players need to understand themselves and learn how to play together and also the lack of preseason games would necessarily affect their performance.

“So to be honest, I see Manchester City winning the league. I believe that last season was an anomaly in what Liverpool did, no disrespect to them, but it’s their first league title after several decades, so I could be pardoned with my words, but this season is for City to lose,” he said.

Chioma Philip, another Chelsea FC fan was also in line with what Okoro said. “This is a season we are going to gel as a team, top 4 with a trophy would be good for the season.

“I don’t see Chelsea winning the league this season with Man City and Liverpool still there. I tip Man City to regain the league they lost to Liverpool last season and become the next champions. So my top 4 are Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man United or Arsenal FC,” she said.

Bashiru Ramon, a Manchester United fan said that Liverpool would not win the league this season rather he fancies Chelsea FC to win it. “With the new players Chelsea has recruited, they are the favourite for me to win it if their players learn to play with each other quickly.

“Look at it, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and tops it up with Thiago Silva with a bunch of experience, they are the favourites. Believe me, it’s not sentimental because of the hatred I have for both ManCcity and Liverpool, but that’s what I see that would happen,” he said.

Femi Martins another Man United fan said that if Man City gets Khalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, they will win the league with five games to spare. “Man City’s weakness is their defence because last season they had to use a midfielder as a makeshift defender due to h the lengthy injury Aymeric Laporte had and the rest center backs were inconsistent.

“To me once City complete that signing, the league is theirs to lose, in fact, they would win the league with many games to spare, the same way Liverpool did last season,” he said.

Tony Uba, an Arsenal FC fan, said that Liverpool would retain their title. “No need to debate or stress this talk, Jurgen Klopp bought just one player and it’s even a left-back for cover if Andy Robertson gets injured.

I heard they want to get Thiago Alcantara, if works out then the same thing would repeat itself and they would win the league before December. “They have Salah, Mane, and Firminho intact with Trent and Robertson as full-backs. Just give them the league,” he said.

Realnews recalls that last season saw Liverpool FC win their first title in 30 years and they finished a staggering 18 points ahead of Man City. However, Pep Guardiola has rejuvenated his squad with the arrival of Ferran Torres and Nathan Ake as well as the departure of Leroy Sane.

The current champions Liverpool have only added Konstantinos Tsimikas to their squad so far. Manchester United and Chelsea are predicted to finish third and fourth by many of the fans for the new season.
