ANTONY Murimi Nyaga, the man who caused a stir after climbing a communication mast and stripping naked to avoid arrest, was on Monday arraigned at the Embu Law Courts in Kenya, and charged with attempted suicide.
Murimi had, on Sunday, June 10, climbed to the top of the Safaricom booster and threatened to jump off, reports Citizen Kenya.
The 23-year-old also faced a second charge of trespassing on private property.
He pleaded guilty to both charges while apologising for his actions.
The accused, together with his accomplice, illegally gained access to the location of the Safaricom booster by scaling a perimeter wall, triggering an alarm in the process.
When policemen arrived on the scene, he quickly ascended the 60-metre mast after his accomplice was apprehended.
“After the Police requested him to climb down, he stripped and continued to ascend further up the mast while chewing khat,” the prosecution told the court. He was however brought down and arrested,” the prosecution said.
The magistrate ordered a probation report to be produced in court within seven days, upon which the accused will be sentenced.
The case will be heard on Monday, June 18, 2018.
