A man was detained after a vehicle hit a police station in north London, Metropolitan police tweeted on Thursday.
Police, however, said they believe the incident was not terror-related, adding that the collision occurred at 6:58 pm (1858 GMT) at Edmonton Police Station in London on Wednesday.
“A 45-year-old white man is believed to have left the vehicle before attempting to set fire to it using petrol,’’ police said in a statement.
“He was apprehended and arrested by officers on suspicion of arson and a number of other offences. He remains in custody at a north London police station.’’
The vehicle was partially embedded in the entrance of the building, according to images posted in social media.
Video posted online showed a man pouring a liquid onto a road and lighting it on fire after a car crashed, according to PA news agency.
Witnesses were heard shouting and police tackled the man, while another officer appeared to extinguish the flames on the road, PA reported.
Police tweeted that they had not been informed of any injuries and that they were allowed to return to the office after the area was evacuated. (dpa/NAN)
