Man docked for allegedly stealing friend’s cell phone, money

A 26-year old man, Friday Godwin, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing his friend’s cell phone and money.

Godwin, who resides at Old Kamazoa, Kaduna, is being charged with stealing to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo told the court that defendant committed the offence on Nov. 20, at Maraba Rido, Kaduna.

Leo stated that Godwin stole a Samsung cell phone belonging to his friend, Samuel Ado, valued N240,000.

The prosecutor further said that while in possession of the phone, the defendant transfered the sum of N350,000 from Ado’s bank account.

He said the offence contravened Section 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

Recall that the Section prescribes a three-year jail term for anyone found guilty of the offense.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Emmanuel said that the sureties must be gainfully employed, and should present proof of tax payment to the Kaduna State Government .

He further said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant, and thereafter adjourned the case until Dec. 18, for hearing. (NAN)
