Man docked for allegedly stealing GP tank worth N299,000

A 35-year-old man, Yahaya Bala, has appeared in an Upper Area Court Gwagwalada, Abuja, for allegedly stealing a GP tank valued at N299,000.
The defendant who resides in Gudaba, Kuje, Abuja, was charged with theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that the complainant, Mr Odeh Peter, reported the matter at Kuje Police Station on July 3.
Tanko said that the complainant on May 13 went to his building site where the defendant resides and work as a mason and discovered that the defendant has stolen his 3,000 litres GP tank valued at N299,000.
He said that the offence contravened the provision of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Defence Counsel, C.N Owhor, prayed the court to admit his client to bail pursuant to Section 168 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) and said that a reliable surety would be provided if granted.
The Judge, Sani Umar, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N350, 000 with one reasonable and reliable surety whom must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Umar said the address of the surety must be verified by the court staff, added that he must provide two recent passport photograph and valid means of identification.
He said that the defendant should be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Suleja if he failed to meet the bail conditions.
He adjourned the case until Nov. 2 for hearing. (NAN)
