Man docked for allegedly stealing neighbour’s cock in Benue

A 46-year-old man, Audu Agene, was on Tuesday docked in a Makurdi Upper Area Court for allegedly stealing a cockerel belonging to his neighbour.
The police charged Agene, who lives in Agbongh village. Makurdi with criminal trespass and mischief.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Veronica Shaagee, told the court that Mr Saawuan Ngugban of same address reported the case at ‘D’ Division Police Station Makurdi on Nov. 12.
Shaagee averred that Agene trespassed into Ngugban;s plot, broke the fence and stole his cockerel worth N6, 500 .
She said investigation into the matter was still ongoing and requested for additional time .
The offence, she said, contravened the provisions of sections 348 and 327 of the Penal Code Law of Benue.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr Vershima Hwande, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in the like sum.
Hwande also said the surety should be a civil servant and adjourned the case until Jan. 10 for further mention. (NAN)
