Man gets 2 months imprisonment for theft

A Kuje Upper Area Court in Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 26-year-old Musa Diko to two months imprisonment for stealing a car battery valued at N18, 000.

Diko, who resides at Paseli Area of Kuje, was convicted after he pleaded guilty to the offence.

The judge, Mr Abdulahi Abdulkareem, however, gave the convict, who begged for leniency,  an option of N5, 000 fine and warned him to desist from further committing crime.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Doris Okoroba, had told the court that one Sule Yusuf of Anguwan Gade area reported the matter at the Kuje Police Station on June 28.

She said that the convict forcefully opened the complainant’s car’s bonnet and removed the battery.

The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the car battery was recovered from the accused.

The offence, she said, contravened Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.
