Man in court for alleged N1m fraud

A 30-year-old man, Tochukwu Uweh, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly defrauding a woman of N1 million under the pretext of purchasing her a medical equipment.

The defendant, who was charged with four-count of fraud, theft, impersonation and suicide, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Benson Emuerhi, had told the Court that Uweh committed the offence sometime in April, at Ologun St., Oke-IRA, Ogba, Lagos.

He said the defendant collected N1 million from one Adetola Adeoye, the complainant, under the pretext of purchasing her medical equipment.

“Uweh defrauded Adeoye by impersonating a medical practitioner, a presentation he knew to be false,” he told the Court.

The prosecutor added that the defendant had been unable to refund the money to the the complainant.

He said the offence contravened Sections 314, 287, 380 (1) 406 and of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr J.A. Tanimola, granted Uweh bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until July 27 for hearing. (NAN)
