Man jailed 2 years for mischief, theft

A Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court, Abuja on Wednesday sentenced a 21-year-old man, Joshua Geoffrey to two years imprisonment for mischief and cell phone theft.

Geoffrey who lives at Block 5, former academy Kubwa Abuja, was charged with mischief and theft.

Geoffrey had pleaded guilty and in tears begged the court for leniency.

The Area Court judge, Sulyman Ola, however, sentenced Geoffrey without an option of fine.

Ola also warned the convict to be a good citizen and of good behaviour.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada told the court that the convict committed the offence on April 17.

Ogada said that the complainant, Musa Ahmed of Byazhin behind transformer, reported the matter at the Byazhin Police Station on April 19.

Ogade said on April 17 at about 4:50 p.m. while the complainant was washing in his kitchen the convict criminally destroyed his room window net valued N10,000.

He told the court that the convict entered the complainant’s room through the window and stole his Techno Provo UR cell phone valued N95, 000.

The prosecutor said the convict was tracked, arrested and handed over to the police for proper investigation.

He said during police investigation, the convict confessed to the crime, adding that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 327 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
