A 40-year-old man, Kabir Abdulkarim, on Monday prayed a Shari’a court sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna, to affirm a one pronouncements of divorce he made against his wife Rilwat Kabir.
The complainant said through his counsel MK Mustafa that he would rent a two-bedroom apartment for the defendant to observe her `iddah’ period.
“The plaintiff would be responsible for all the necessities needed by the defendant during her iddah period and would want her to move out of his apartment,” he said.
On her part, the defendant said through her counsel that she agreed with the divorce but wanted custody of their three children.
She added that she would not object to the prayer of leaving her matrimonial apartment as “there are some issues involved in the house”.
The judge, Malam Murtala Nasir, affirmed the divorce and said that it was the right of the husband to find a safe environment for a wife to stay.
He, however, noted that the complainant must have a confirmation from the court to know whether the place was suitable or not.
