A 26-year-old sales manager, Augustina Eze, on Friday appeared in a Wuse Zone Six Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly defrauding his employer.
The police charged Eze, who lives in Lugbe, Abuja, with criminal breach of trust, cheating and negligent conduct.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Peter Ejike, told the court that the complainant, Paul Okoronkwo of Shop E184, Wuse Market, Abuja, reported the matter at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Wuse, on Nov. 6.
Ejike told the court that the Okoronkwo employed Eze as a Branch Manager of his provision store located at Wuse Market.
The prosecutor said that on Oct.24, 2020, the complainant stocked the shop with goods worth N20 million and entrusted the defendant with the sales and management of the goods.
He said when the complainant returned to the shop for audit, he discovered that goods worth N2. 6 million were sold by the defendant but not remitted.
Ejike said during police investigation, Eze could not give a satisfactory account of the missing goods and admitted of being negligent.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 312, 322 and 196 of the Penal Code Law.
Magistrate Abdulmajid Oniyangi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1.5million and two sureties in like sum.
Oniyangi ordered that the sureties must be reasonable and should reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The magistrate adjourned the case until March 29, for hearing. (NAN)
