Manpower shortage: FCT UBEB to deploy 1,500 newly recruited teachers

THE FCT Universal Basic Education Board (FCT UBEB) said on Monday that newly recruited 1,500 teachers would receive their letters in the next couple of weeks.
The Executive Chairman of the Board, Prof. Abdullahi Mohammed said this during an interview with newsmen in Abuja.
Mohammed said deployment of the teachers to the classroom was part of the efforts by the Board to address the manpower shortage in the classrooms across FCT.
He said conscious of the relationship between the quality of teachers and their impact on their students’ learning outcomes, the Board, in collaboration with the British Council would soon retrain 5,000 teachers.
According to him, the Board is in partnership with traditional and religious leaders in the FCT to ensure that every school age children was enrolled into school.
“As far as FCT is concerned we will do our best to ensure that every child on the street in enrolled into schools.
’’We are conscious of the enormity of the task; we are trying to see how we can convince the FCT administration to give us more resource.
“They insist that we must give value for the money and we will definitely do that’’, he told newsmen.
Mohammed the Board would partner with stakeholders to ensure that the infrastructure deficit in FCT schools was addressed as soon as possible.
He said the Board was also strengthening its project evaluation and monitoring system as well as its legal unit to address the challenge posed by poor project execution. (NAN)
