GOVERNOR Bello Matawalle of Zamfara has ordered the state Directorate of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs to immediately provide relief materials to victims of rainstorm and flooding in Zurmi Local Government Area of the state.
This was contained in a statement issued by Yusif Idris, the governor’s Director-General, Public Enlightenment, Media, and Communication, on Wednesday in Gusau.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a number of villages and farmlands were on Monday night destroyed by flooding following heavy rainfall in the area.
According to the statement, Matawalle while sympathizing with the victims, directed officials of the directorate to immediately mobilize to the affected communities, assess the level of damage, and propose immediate relief that could be extended to the victims.
He assured that relief materials would be provided to all the affected communities as soon as the government received the report of the damage.
Matawalle called on people of the state to clear waterways, drains and culverts to ensure the free floor of the water, especially as the rains have intensified. (NAN)
