Mechanic, 41, in court for alleged stealing

A 41-year-old mechanic, Abiodun Lawal, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing vehicle spare parts worth of N453,000.
Lawal, who is a resident of Dopemu-Agege in Lagos State, is facing a count charge of theft.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, ASP Akeem Raji, told the court that the defendant allegedly burgled cars from where they were packed and stole different spare parts worth of N453,000.
Raji said that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 20 at about 2.30 a.m. at N29 Omolare St., Off Ikuomola, Cement area of Dopemu-Agege.
The prosecutor said the defendant stole the brain box of a Toyota Corolla, with registration number KRD 316 CD worth N45,000.
Other items stolen included typing button worth N35,000 and one vent glass worth N7,000, totalling N87,000.
According to him, these items belong to one Mr Aliu Ayodeji.
He added that the defendant also stole another car brain box worth N45,000, gear control button of N30,000, side glass valued at N12,000 of a Toyota Matrix car, totalling N87,000.
“All these belong to another complainant, one Mr Operinde Azeez,’’ prosecutor told the court.
He said the defendant stole another window button valued N35,000, vehicle glass, N24,000 and a neck chain worth N220,000 from a Lexus 300 Jeep, belonging to one Yusuf Jimoh.
“The defendant stole four door control button value yet unknown from one Toyota Corolla car with registration number KTU-880-FT, belonging to one Mr Adeosun Adeyinka.
“He also stole one brain box, taping glass mirror, valued unknown from one Infinity Jeep, belonging to one Mr Fatai Omoniyi.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.I. Adelaja, granted the defendant N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Adelaja ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and have evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
NAN reports that the alleged offence contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015 and stipulates three years’ jail term for offenders.
The Magistrate adjourned the case until March 10 for mention. (NAN)
