THE police in Lagos on Monday, dragged a 42-year-old man, Emmanuel Ogu, before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court, over alleged wilful damage.
The defendant was charged before the Magistrate, Mr L.K.J Layeni, on two counts of conduct likely to breach public peace and wilful damage.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 3, at Abule Oshun in Ojo.
Uche alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N300,000 from one Ugochukwu Edeh, with a promise to fix his Mercedes gear box, being a gear box specialist.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant instead, further damaged the gear box and absconded with the money.
He told the court that the defendant abandoned the vehicle at Nwafija town in Orumba South, Local Government Area, Anambra state.
Uche said the defendant was eventually arrested on Feb. 1.
The offence contravenes the provisions of sections 168 and 399 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until March 3, for mention. (NAN)
