AN Area Court in Jos on Monday sentenced Monday Maimakor, 18, to three months imprisonment for stealing an Infinix Smart 5 android phone.
The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced the accused after he pleaded guilty to the offence and begged for leniency.
The judge also gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine and asked him to pay the complainant a compensation of N22,000 or three months imprisonment in default.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported at the Laranto police station on June 1, by Mr Danang Moses.
He said the accused person picked Moses’ pocket and snatched his phone when he was highlighting from a vehicle in Jos, but he was caught while trying to run away.
The prosecutor further told the court that during police investigation, the accused confessed to have committed the offence.
The offence, he said, contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria. (NAN)
