THE Gombe government says it has established three mega secondary schools to raise education standard in the state.

The schools are established in Kaltungo, Dadin-Kowa and Dukku Local Government Areas of the state.

The mega schools project was critical to Gov. Inuwa Yahaya’s administration drive to rejig the comatose post basic education level.

The Commissioner for Education, Mr Dauda Batari stated this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Thursday.

He said the state government constituted a task force committee to fast track successful take off of the newly established mega schools.

He noted that most of the senior secondary schools in the state lack basic facilities to facilitate enabling learning and teaching environment.

The commissioner said the mega schools were designed with modern classrooms, laboratories, libraries and hostels among others.

According to him, there are 559 and 155 junior and senior secondary schools in the state, adding that the high number of the schools made it difficult for the government to provided the necessary infrastructure and other facilities.

“It is against this background that the government established three mega schools to enhance access to quality education, encourage academic excellence and enable the students to realise their full potentials.

“Only students who passed the Basic Certificate of Education with high grades would be admitted into the mega schools to guard against compromising standard,” he said.

The commissioner disclosed that the state government also recruited 1,000 teachers to address manpower gap in the education sector.

He reitrated government’s commitment to increase investment to facilitate infrastructure development and provision of modern teaching facilities in schools across the state. (NAN)
