MISS Face of Humanity Nigeria, MFOH Nigeria, has called on the government and the public to provide urgent support for a visually impaired orphan, identified as Godwin, residing within the Special Education Centre for children with special needs in Agbor, Delta State.
This plea comes after a charity outreach led by Amb. Marvis Ogbewi, the 4th Ambassador for Miss Face of Humanity Nigeria 2025.
During the outreach on Valentine’s Day, Ogbewi discovered the orphan’s dire living conditions and emphasized the need for immediate intervention. She highlighted the critical lack of financial support, inadequate infrastructure, and the absence of basic amenities such as clean water and cleaning materials at the institution.
“In our communities today, we have seen the social stigma surrounding children with disabilities. I believe it is important for each and everyone to act differently,” Amb. Ogbewi remarked. “I decided to spend Valentine’s Day with these children to make them feel seen and loved and to appreciate the teachers for their tireless efforts since the school’s inception.”
Her visit revealed several pressing needs. Although she personally provided school fees and uniforms for two students—one in primary and one in secondary school—she acknowledged that many others require financial assistance. “My expected outcome is to ensure that every child I met yesterday gets as much support as they need,” she stated. “I believe we can collectively achieve that.”
Amb. Ogbewi also drew attention to the harsh working conditions faced by the staff, who struggle to maintain a clean environment due to a lack of access to clean water and cleaning supplies. “I know that a child’s learning environment is as important as what they learn. The government has a huge role to play in ensuring the constant supply of water, electricity, and the employment of cleaning staff,” she urged.
Her advocacy goes beyond immediate needs, calling for systemic change to ensure inclusive education and better living conditions for children with special needs. She appealed directly to the Delta State Government to prioritize the welfare of these children and invest in long-term solutions.
“The Special Education Centre for children with special needs in Agbor is a vital institution that requires urgent attention and support. It is your duty to ensure these vulnerable children receive quality education, care, and resources that cater to their unique needs,” Amb. Ogbewi emphasized.
She called for increased funding to improve the school’s infrastructure, staff training, and educational resources. Furthermore, she urged the government to implement policies that promote equal opportunities and protect the rights of children with special needs.
“By fulfilling your duty to support children with special needs, you will not only be upholding their rights but also contributing to a more inclusive and equitable society,” she added.
Amb. Ogbewi reaffirmed her commitment to the cause, promising to gather more information during her next visit to the school. Her advocacy aligns with MFOH Nigeria’s broader mission to empower marginalized communities and ensure that no child is left behind.
As the plight of the visually impaired orphan gains public attention, it is hoped that swift action will be taken to improve the living and learning conditions for all children at the centre.
