THE General Manager, Mighty Jets International Football Club of Jos, Ferdinand Mbum, said on Wednesday that the club was aiming to be self-reliant.
Mbum made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos.
He said that the club under his watch needed to be developed into a global sports brand.
The general manager told NAN that “the goal is to devise new ways of generating income to curtail the total dependence on government for the running of the club.
“I know it is not going to be easy but we want to make Mighty Jets self-reliant by trying to get sponsorship from corporate organisations.
“We intend to raise young and talented players that are marketable to European clubs.
“That is how most clubs in Africa make their money these days but we seem not to be doing that,” he said.
Mbum further said that apart from raising funds for the club, the number one priority of the club was to gain promotion to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
According to him, Mighty Jets has been in the Nigerian National League (NNL) for 19 years and therefore, it is imperative for the Jos based club to return to the elite league.
To achieve the target, the GM said that the club engaged an experienced coach of international repute, Benard Ogbe, to head the team’s coaching staff.
He pointed out that the club resolved to hire Ogbe who had three stints with Mighty Jets in the past because of the wonderful job he did at Bendel Insurance during their trying time.
Mbum expressed optimism that Ogbe, who is one of the best coaches in the country would help Mighty Jets achieve their target. (NAN)
