Undocumented migrant arrivals in Greece totalled 13,679 from January to November 2020.
According to Greek official statistics, published on Monday, 9,029 migrants arrived by sea and 4,653 by land.
During the same period, the European country registering the largest number of migrants’ arrivals was Spain.
As of 3 December, nearly 36,300 immigrants reached Spain by sea, while another 1,600 got there by land.
On Tuesday, the Greek government accused Turkey of encouraging Somali migration through visa offers.
More than half of the 214 migrants who crossed illegally from Turkey to the Greek island of Lesbos since 1 November were from Somalia, Greek Migration Minister Notis Mitarachi told reporters.
Currently, there are between 2,000 and 3,000 migrants on the Turkish west coast, he said.
Somalians obtained student or healthcare visas for Turkey, where criminal gangs helped them to cross into Greece, Mitarachi claimed, adding “These people are essentially arriving legally in Turkey, for the express purpose of illegal trafficking into Europe.” (PANA/NAN)
