Mohammed Namadi Sambo, architect, former governor and vice-president, 59, August 2. Born in Zaria, Kaduna State, he was educated at Baptist Primary School, Kakuri, Kaduna, Kobi Primary School, Bauchi State, Towns School, Zaria; Government Secondary School, now Alhuda-Huda College, in Zaria; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He served with the Oyo State Ministry of Works and Housing during his National Youth Service Corps scheme, 1979. He was Commissioner for Works, Transport and Housing, Kaduna, 1988. He left the service of Kaduna State Government and went back to private practice, 1990. Sambo was elected governor of Kaduna State, 2007; he was appointed vice-president after the death of President Umaru Yar’Adua, 2010.

Ingram Adichie Osigwe, media relations consultant and company executive, 44, July 30. Born in Akokwa, Ideato North local government area of Imo State, he was educated at Abia State University, 1988-1992. He is the managing director, Full Page International Communications Limited.

Diete-Spiff
Diete-Spiff

Alfred Papapreye Diete-Spiff, retired naval officer and traditional ruler of Twon-Brass, 71, July 30. Born in Twon-Brass, Nembe, Bayelsa State, he was educated at St. Joseph’s College, Western Cameroon and Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, England. He served as the military governor of old Rivers State from 1967-1975.

Died

Charity Iwori Oba, foster mother of Patience Jonathan, wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, from Okrika, Okrika local government area of Rivers State, died on July 22. She was aged 65. Oba, who lost her life in a ghastly motor accident on her way to Bayelsa State, was the younger sister to Patience Jonathan’s biological mother.
