THE Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Prof. Claudius Daramola, has advised staff of the University of Ilorin to seize opportunities outside the universities that could fetch them more recognition and connection.

Prof. Daramola gave this advice at the presentation of a book in his honour, entitled: “Professor Claudius Omoleye Daramola, that I know” and a journal entitled “Special Nigerian Journal of Educational Foundations.”

According to Unilorin Bulletin issued on Monday, the event was organised by the Association of Sociologists of Education of Nigeria (ASEN), Unilorin Chapter, to celebrate Daramola’s 70th birthday and mark his retirement from the services of the University.

The publication quoted the minister as advising the academics to engage in impactful research and social activities that could fetch them more recognition and connection.

The minister appealed to his older students, who are now his colleagues, to always nurture and mentor the younger scholars to become the geniuses they were destined to be.

He also urged senior University staff not to destroy the ladder they used to climb up so that others could learn from their wealth of experience and rise.

The don appreciated the past and current managements of the University for giving him the opportunity to serve just as he appreciated his students and colleagues in his 34 years’ sojourn in the institution.

He also thanked members of the Association of Sociologist of Education in Nigeria (ASEN), and others who joined hands in organising the event for the gesture he would live to remember.

Also, Dr Billy Olajide of the Department of Arts Education, University of Ilorin, who reviewed the journal, “Special Nigerian”, observed that “the journal explores different dimensions of education.

These dimensions, Olajide said, included the sociological and psychological bases of teachers’ preparation such as the influence of politics on curriculum planning on development and implementation on education on moral development and on international peace process, among others. (NAN)
