Minister tasks surveyors on partnership with related agencies

THE Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, has advised the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) to sensitize other institutions on the importance of surveys to infrastructure development.
Fashola, who was represented by Mr Abubakar Aliyu, Minister of State for Works and Housing, during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the NIS, said this was in order to enjoy a wide partnership.
The Director of Press and Publicity, FMWH, Mrs Boade Akinola disclosed this to newsmen in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
Fashola noted that the FMWH appreciated the value of the institution to building and construction.
He added that other institutions like the Nigerian Army should be sensitized on the importance of surveys in construction works in order to partner with the institution in all their construction activities.
He added that the world would not be stable without a survey, stating that nothing could be put on the ground without properly giving all the coordinates and the levels.
“Sensitise people to partner with you, it will enable them to imbibe best global practices to what they are doing,” the minister said.
The minister assured the delegation of the ministry’s support toward the successful hosting of the 2021 Annual Meeting of the NIS in Abuja.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation and President of the NIS, Mr Charlesye Charles said they were in the ministry to invite Fashola to be the Chief Host of the forthcoming Annual General Meeting of the institution.
He said that bit was also to solicit for the support and cooperation of the ministry towards the event.
Charles disclosed that the annual meeting of the institution has a theme: “Emerging Trends in Geospatial Technologies for Earth System and Infrastructure Mapping, Monitoring and Management,”.
He said that it would be held in Abuja from May 25 to May 27.
Charles explained that the conference would create opportunities for all stakeholders in the geospatial industry to discuss and network.
He said it would showcase the latest developments in knowledge, processes, and facilities for the surveying and mapping environment to successfully deliver national and organizational policies and projects.
He further informed the minister that the investiture of the 22nd President of the institution would take place on May 27 at the conference.(NAN)
