THE Ministries of Industry, Trade and Investment and Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, have announced a collaboration to promote digital trade and create job opportunities in Nigeria.
Dr Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, emphasised that the partnership would enhance Information Technology and Communication (ITC) and foster digital trade across the country.
She made the remarks while receiving Dr Olatunbosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, on a courtesy visit in her office on Wednesday in Abuja.
Tijani explained that the visit aimed to strengthen collaboration between the two ministries, ensuring effective support for digital programmes.
He outlined the ministry’s blueprint to promote these programmes, which he said would improve the local and global market and help establish a real-time trade digital intelligence platform under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
He highlighted that job creation would be a key focus of their collaboration, with initiatives designed to drive export and mobilise resources to achieve set goals.
Tijani also mentioned the importance of the national e-commerce policy, a project aligned with the priorities of the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Oduwole expressed her ministry’s eagerness to collaborate with the Communications Ministry, particularly in the areas of job creation and economic growth.
She noted that the strategic blueprint of both ministries aligned, and her ministry was committed to supporting initiatives that would position Nigeria as a destination for services and boost service exports.
Both ministers agreed that scaling digital infrastructure in public service would enhance service delivery and further strengthen Nigeria’s position in global digital trade.
They concluded the meeting by reiterating their commitment to working together to achieve the outlined goals. (NAN)
