KADUNA State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development have trained 50 youths including persons with disabilities on Agency Banking to enhance financial inclusion in rural areas.

The Commissioner in the ministry, Hajiya Hafsat Baba said in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Kaduna that the beneficiaries were trained for three days.

She said it was part of the government efforts to provide gender responsive skill to young persons by empowering them to serve as  financial services hubs through partnerships with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The commissioner explained that after a rigorous selection process, two people comprising a young man and a girl from each of the 23 local government areas were trained on agency banking.

She added that four persons with disabilities were added to make the number of beneficiaries to 50.

“We really want to have people who have a little knowledge about agency banking, passion and can make impact in contributing to their communities, because we want it to be community driven,” she said.

According to her, the youth would be provided with gender tool kits and certificates to become gender ambassadors and bank agents.

The commissioner revealed that the ministry will train eight supervisors to monitor the youths “so that by November 2018 we will able to showcase success story about these young people.” (NAN)
