PROFESSOR Kingsley Moghalu will be the guest lecturer at the 2019 Annual General Meeting and Guest Lecture of the Ra’ayi Initiative for Human Development.
The lecture, entitled “Northern Nigeria’s Prosperity in the 21st Century: The Imperative of Social and Economic Transformation,” will hold on June 9th, 2019, at the Conference Hall, Mallam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano.
“The Ra’ayi guest lecture series has over the years provided a platform for robust dialogue on the socio-economic development of Kano,” said Prof. Moghalu. “I am delighted to contribute to the dialogue this year. I have a special affinity for Kano and look forward to engaging the people of the great city again.”
Kingsley Moghalu is a renowned political economist and development thinker. He was appointed by the late President Umaru Yar’Adua as Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in 2009.
During his successful five-year tenure, Moghalu served with then-CBN Governor and the current Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II. He also had a 17-year career in the international civil service of the United Nations.
Following his tenure at the CBN, Moghalu served as Professor of Practice in International Business and Public Policy at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, USA from 2015 to 2017, and is a Distinguished Non-Resident Fellow at the elite institution.
Moghalu was the presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) during the March 2019 general elections in Nigeria. Since the election, he has been the convener, To Build A Nation (TBAN), a non-partisan, civil society organization engaged in voter education and advocacy for political reform. He is also the Founder of the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET).
According to Jide Akintunde, the spokesperson of the organisers, To Build A Nation, TBAN, the lecture will be chaired by Professor Kabiru Isa Dandago, a former Commissioner for Finance, Kano State.
Moghalu’s guest lecture will be discussed by a panel consisting of Dr. Nuruddeen Muhammad, a former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; and Ahmad Umar Sunusi, a development strategist and former banker.
“The theme of this year’s event is very important,” said Ibrahim Musa, Chairman and Member of the Board of Trustees, Ra’ayi Initiative for Human Development.
“We are glad to have a global thinker like Prof. Moghalu as Guest Lecturer. Along with the Chairman and the Discussants, we look forward to their intellectual and practical insights for the socio-economic transformation of Kano,” he said.
Ra’ayi Initiative for Human Development is a self-funded humanitarian group. Since its formation about a decade ago, the group has focused on sponsoring medical outreach within Kano State, and the areas of priority of its programmes include education and human rights as enshrined in the African Charter.
