THE Lamido of Gashaka Dr Zubairu Hammangabdo and some residents of Serti, headquarters of Gashaka Local Government of Taraba have expressed gratitude to the Malaria Consortium for distributing insecticidal treated mosquito nets in the area.

The royal father  expressed his feelings after witnessing the distribution of the nets in some wards within the towns of Serti and Baruwa on Thursday.

He commended the consortium for the level of awareness created by the media that led to the large turn out of residents to collect the nets.

Hammangabdo told the News Agency Nigeria (NAN) in Serti that the effort would go a long way in reducing the rampant cases of malaria in the population, especially among children and women.

He urged his subjects to use the nets appropriately to boost health of families and save money that could be used on malaria treatment for other purposes.

In an interview, a mother of six, Hajiya Kande Garba, described the gesture as timely, saying the nets would reduce the expenses incurred regularly on malaria treatment.

Similarly, Alhaji Umaru Bariki, another resident, said that he mandated all his family members to always sleep under the treated mosquito nets, while Mr Maxwell Dauda of the Army Barracks quarters, said that he could not remember when he slept without treated mosquito net.

In his remarks, Yerima Hayatu, the District head of Baruwa township, enjoined other residents to make good use of the nets and not to divert them to other purposes.

Primary Health Care Department Representative Malum Manu reiterated readiness to support the consortium towards achieving Universal Health Coverage.

He said that the distribution was in support of the fight against malaria across the state.

NAN reports that the Malaria consortium is a UK charity organisation that specialises in prevention, control and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases in developing countries.(NAN)
