Mother, daughter docked for allegedly stabbing co-tenant with bottle

A mother and her daughter, Elizabeth Gomez, 58 and Omolayo Gomez, 32, were on Wednesday brought before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stabbing a co-tenant in the head with broken bottle.

The defendants, who pleaded not guilty, are being tried on a two-count charge of conspiracy and assault.

The Prosecutor, Sodiq Olawale, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on May 18 at No. 6, Kofoworola Square, Surulere, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendants conspired to assault a co-tenant, one Titilayo Hassan by stabbing her with a broken bottle in the head.

He said the offences violated Sections 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. O. Otitoju, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 each with two responsible sureties each in like sum.

Otitoju said that the sureties must be blood relations or clergy and the second surety must have known the defendants for a least two years.

She case was adjourned until June 30 for trial.
