REV. Fr. Kenneth Nnaji, the Parish Priest, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Catholic Church, Coal Camp in Enugu, has urged mothers to be agents of  peace and change in the family, church and society.

Nnaji gave the advice during Mothering Sunday Mass at the Holy Family Parish,  Ologo, in Enugu North Council Area of Enugu State on Sunday.

Speaking in his homily titled “Mothers Peace Be with You” the clergyman said the church set aside the day to honour mothers for the role they play in the society.

While congratulating mothers, the priest said motherhood was a call and sacred vocation, adding that to be a mother, one must have the propensity of accountability.

He explained that mothers could be biological, adoptive, spiritual and natural mothers.

The cleric equally urged mothers to be participatory mothers rather than being a permissive, absentee and abusive mothers.

According to him, abusive mothers abuse their husbands and children emotionally and psychological and fail to see punishment and reward as means of reinforcement.

“Absentee mothers also closed work and business late, leaving their home and children to the mercy of maids while permissive mothers cares less about the children and will never condemn children’s attitudes.

“Some women are toxic and sarcastic and do not know when their children go out of gear while participatory mothers take care of the family,” Nnaji said.

The cleric noted that in spite of the roles women play to ensure peaceful society, sometimes, culture diminished it.

He, however, charged them on patience, endurance and always praying for peace for the development and transformation of the society. (NAN)
