Motorcyclist dies in Anambra accident

A road traffic accident involving a tipper has killed a motorcyclist on Umuazu-Nteje Road in Nteje Local Government Area of Anambra.

Mr Andrew Kumapayi, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, confirmed the incident to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Awka.

Kumapayi said that the accident, which occurred at about noon, was caused by speeding and loss of control.

“The crash involved one Mr Udoka Nwoya the driver of Mercedes Benz Tipper, with registration number XA156EFR, and an unidentified motorcycle rider, without registration number

“Eyewitness report reaching us indicates that the driver of the tipper, while speeding, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the motorcycle rider.

“The motorcycle rider was taken to Chira Hospital, Awkuzu, by FRSC rescue team from Nteje unit Command.

“He was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty, and his body deposited at Wisdom Mortuary, Nteje,” he said.

Kumapayi said that the driver of the lorry was handed over to the police for further investigations.

While condoling with the family of the deceased, he urged motorists to always  drive in line with the speed limits stipulated by law.

He also urged motorcyclists to always put on their safety helmets while riding their bikes to avoid head injury during traffic crash.
