Women

By Paul Nwosu

PROPER parenting has been given pride of place by the wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo. The personable Mama Anambra has called on Umunwanyi Anambra to imbibe proper parenting in the upbringing of children.

Mrs Soludo made the essential call while interacting with Umunwanyi Anambra at the Anambra Womens Summit 2023 held at Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka recently.

At the Summit which had the splendid theme: “Women – Agents of Change for Sustainable Development”, Mrs Soludo charged the women of Anambra State to be solution providers in the home in order to reposition the society.

She said: “Time has come for women to go back to the drawing board, put your homes in order and become game changers especially as it concerns proper parenting. Mothers are people with special gifts from God, especially appropriately for the child. While the father may be too busy with all sorts of things, it is the mother that should stay home and ensure that the home-front is in order.

“Every woman must also learn to question the source of their childrens sudden wealth, imbibe respect for their husbands and control their temper. Mothers must go back to the drawing board as the society depends largely on them to correct all that is going wrong today in the society. Parents must also refrain from chiding teachers who reprimand their children.”

Drawing attention to the fact that this is the season of the cherished August Meeting, Mama Anambra stated: As we prepare to go for our August meetings, let us take the message of returning women to their rightful position in the family as agents of change. We must use it to sensitise women at the rural communities on the need to be agents of change”.

For Mrs Soludo, its time for the women to pay requisite attention to the high rate of cases of abuses, sexual and gender-based violence prevalent in the society, and the need to access quick justice delivery.

The Mrs Soludo imperative entails that Anambra women in attending the August Meeting in their various domains should crucially promote the cause of proper parenting.

There is no running away from the fact that an improperly trained child amounts to the ruination of the entire society.

Women are the generals of the home-front, as Mrs Soludo stressed, so it is crucial that Umunwanyi Anambra should lead the charge of putting in place homes that are worthy of emulation.

In exchanging ideas at the August Meeting, the women ought to put on the front burner the clear and present danger of not bringing up the children properly. It is a badly trained child that embraces immoral conducts that lead to the destruction of society.

A woman with her eyes on the children will never allow them to go astray. It is when the children are not properly supervised and watched over that they embrace the bad habits of stealing, sexual immorality and even the use of the dreadful drug called Mkpulummili.

Soludo leads the way through personal example, and it is thus incumbent on the generality of Umunwanyi Anambra to follow her astute lead. She is definitely showing the light that will direct the women and children toward attaining their cherished goals.

As Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Zik of Africa, was fond of saying, Show the light, and the people will find the way.

It is not for nothing that Anambra State is The Light of the Nation. The light must never be dimmed given that good examples are being laid through proper parenting as advocated by Mrs Nonye Soludo, Mama Anambra.
