ADAMU Mu’azu, national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has eventually thrown in the towel over the endless crisis rocking the party since its lost the general elections. Muazu was said to have sent in his resignation letter from the United Kingdom hospital where he was receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

Uche Secondus, deputy national chairman of the party, has since taken over the helm of affair in acting capacity, pending the election of a substantive chairman.

Muazu gave his health condition as the reason for his resignation. Mu’azu has been the chairman for about a year, after he took over from Bamanga Tukur who stepped down under intense party crisis. Before his resignation, there were reports that Mu’azu, who before now was addressed as ‘the game changer,’ was said to gone out of the country to evade being forced to convene a meeting of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the party, where he could be asked to resign.

The erstwhile chairman of the PDP had been under intense pressure to quit his position following the PDP’s poor showing in the 2015 general elections. “We shall continue to accord him all due respect for his efforts in the last campaigns of the just concluded general election and shall not forget him in a hurry. In line with the PDP Constitution, the Deputy National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus has taken over as the acting national chairman of PDP pending his replacement from the northeast geo-political zone,” he said. Metuh said that the party leadership was already shopping for Muazu’s replacement from the North East zone.
