THE Comptroller General of Immigration, CGI, Muhammad Babandede, has described the demise of the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, and 10 others as a vacuum created and must be filled to continue the fight against insecurity and other vices threatening the peace of the country.

In a statement. Babandede condoled with the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigerian Armed Forces, families and friends of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, and the other military officers and crew, who died in the ill-fated aircraft while on national assignment on Friday, May 21, 2021.

According to the statement, Babandede is saddened by the fact that the late COAS died while on a patriotic mission and described him as “an excellent senior military officer.

The CGI noted that the late COAS represented “one of the best in the military hierarchy of today, courageous, disciplined, highly professional, passionate and a patriotic Nigerian.

“Late Lt. Gen. Attahiru’s death is painful considering the crop of highly loyal, excellent officers that were with him in the ill-fated aircraft. This is in addition to the reality that he left a nation he so much loved at a time his experience and service were most needed,” he said.

He urged the members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, particularly the officers and men of the Nigerian Army, not to allow the tragic incident to dampen their morale, but to remain focused and determined to fight the war to finish within the shortest time as a way of acknowledging his sacrifices and dreams in a way to restoring law and order in the country, as that will be the most befitting honor and memorial for the late General and the other fallen heroes.
