GOV. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau has commended the National Universities Commission (NUC), for granting preliminary approval for the commencement of three new faculties in its University in Bokkos.
The governor made the commendation when Mr Chris Maiyaki, the Executive Secretary of NUC visted him on Monday in Jos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that NUC had granted preliminary approval for the commencement of faculties of Medicine, pharmacy and law at the state university.
Muftwang said that the move would improve the quality of courses offered in the university.
”I want to thank you for granting preliminary approval for the commencement of faculties of medicine, pharmacy and law in our university in Bokkos.
”We are aware it will be a tough journey, but we are equally ready to take it on.
“By the grace of God we are moving and we will get to where we want to position our institutions in the state as centers of excellence,”he said.
The governor, who pledged to reconstitute the Governing Councils of all Tertiary Institutions in the state, also promised to address all setbacks in the education sector.
“I have been a strong advocate for the restructuring of our educational system, so let me assure you that by the end of this month all our tertiary institutions will have their governing councils in place.
“We have taken our time to select the right people that we think can add value to those institutions; it is not a job for boys, that is why we have held on for this long.
”By the grace of God we are coming to the point where we think we are comfortable to get the right people into the right places” he said.
Earlier, Maiyaki, commended the governor for providing good governance in various sectors.
He, however, urged the governor to do more in the education sector.
“I urge you and your good team to treat the matter of education as the resource that will always impact on other resources,”he urged.(NAN)
