NAIJA Ratels Women Football Club of Abuja on Friday whipped Adamawa Queens of Yola 4-3 after a penalty kicks shootout in a 2023 Federation Cup match.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Round of 32 match took place at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium (ATBS) in Bauchi.

Both sides could not be separated after 90 minutes of play and it then all ended in a penalty kick shootout.

During a post-match interview, Israel Akata, chief coach of Adamawa Queens, said the match was good and the luckier side won.

He then lauded the efforts of his players, saying they had done their best in the match and would go places.

Bankole Olowookere, the chief coach of Naija Ratels, said it was a sure thing that FA Cup competitions were normally full of sunrises not only in Nigeria but across the world.

“I thought the match would have been wrapped up by the end of the first and second halfs.

“It was a good match that we were able to figure out our mistakes which would be corrected before the next round, for us to eventually beat the other team,” he said.

Meanwhile, in another Round of 32 match in the competition, Adaobi Okah scored five goals to help Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt to overcome their Federation Cup opponents.

They beat Golden Sun 5-0 in their fixture played inside the Eket stadium on Friday.

Okah rounded the goalkeeper in the third minute to open scores for the Jewel of Rivers after receiving a through ball from Chiamaka Okwuchukwu.

Sofia Agyaakwa then doubled the lead from a set-piece delivery in the sixth minute and the eight-time Champions held on to the lead as they went for the break.

On resumption of play in the second half, Okah made it 3-0 for Rivers Angels with a cool header in the 49th minute.

In the 53rd minute, she registered her hat-trick with a simple tap-in.

Alice Ambassa and Blessing Okpe came off the bench to increase the tally to 6-0 as both scored in the 59th and 61st minutes respectively.

Okah made it more frustrating for the Bayelsa side as she scored in the 70th and 85th minutes to round up the scoring.(dpa/NAN)
