MALAM Ali Muhammad Ali, the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), has symphathised with government and people of Borno, over the Sept. 9, flood disaster in the state.

He stated this on Sunday during a visit to the Maiduguri zonal office of the agency ravaged by the flooding.

Ali described the disaster as a “major human tragedy,” and reitrated commitment toward ensuring sustained news coverage of the state in view of its pivotal role in the North-East region

The managing director commended the resilience of the people of the state, amid challenging aftermath of the disaster, adding that: “NAN cannot stand by while its services to the North-East are affected.

“Our priority is to gain firsthand insight into the damage caused by the flooding  and to ensure that our operations in Borno, as the historic capital of the old North-East remain uninterrupted,” he said.

Ali underscored the importance of Borno as a strategic news hub, stressing that NAN presence was essential for delivering accurate and timely information to the public.

He, therefore, urged the Borno Government to support the agency in securing a befitting office accomodation to meet its needs.

“Our objective is to reestablish a fully equipped workspace in Borno,  to enhance our coverage and enable our journalists to deliver news effectively, despite the challenges,” he said.

Ali was accompanied on the visit by the management team of the agency, as part of a nationwide tour to evaluate and strengthen its infrastructure. (NAN)
