THE 13 All Progressives Congress (APC) ward Chairmen in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have urged a legislative aspirant, Mrs Juliana Dauda, to retrieve her appeal case at the Appeal Court, Makurdi, against Alh. Mohammed Alkali, member representing Lafia North constituency at the state legislature.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dauda, an aspirant for Lafia North Constituency in the recently conducted APC Primary for 2023 general election, is challenging the emergence of Alhaji Mohammed Alkali as the party’s flagbearer for Lafia North constituency at the state legislature before the Court of Appeal, Makurdi.

Mr Mohammed Ramalan, the Chairman of the 13 APC ward chairmen in the area, made the call during a courtesy visit to Alkali in Lafia on Tuesday.

They said that the appeal case filed by Dauda contradicted the earlier agreement reached during a stakeholders meeting of Lafia LGA that neither Alkali nor Dauda should appeal the Federal High Court judgment,  irrespective of whom the judgment favoured.

“Our call for Hon Juliana Dauda to retrieve her appeal against you is in line with Lafia APC stakeholders decision taken during unity and reconciliation meeting held before thr judgment of the Federal High Court, Lafia.

“That there should be no appeal by both Hon Alkali and Hon Juliana after Court judgment over the party primaries and whoever gets favour in court stands and should be supported by the other partner.

“Honourable sir, we are here to assure you of our support and our readiness to work with you for the success of APC at all levels in 2023.

“Sir, from here we will also look for Hon Juliana Esla Dauda to talk to her on the need for her to respect Lafia APC stakeholders meeting in which Sen. Tanko Al-Makura was in attendance that none of you should appeal the case after the judgment of the Federal High Court, Lafia,” he said.

The chairman of the APC award chairmen added that: “The agreement is that if her (Hon Juliana) win at the Federal High Court, Lafia, you (Hon. Mohammed Ibrahim Alkali) will be her campaign Director-General for the Lafia North constituency election.

“And if you (Hon. Mohammed Ibrahim Alkal) win, Hon. Juliana Esla Dauda will be your campaign Director-General. This decision was taken by APC stakeholders of Lafia in the interest of unity, peace, progress and development of the party.

“But we learnt that Hon. Juliana appealed the Federal High Court Judgment that favoured you.

“We want to appeal to her to respect the earlier agreement reached by APC Stakeholders of Lafia LGA by retrieving her appeal against you at the Appeal Court, Makurdi.”

According to him, “This is in the interest of unity, peace and success of the party beyond 2023 in the constituency and beyond the constituency.”

Ramalan, who is also the Chairman, 147 APC ward Chairmen in Nasarawa State, said that he would inform Gov. Abdullahi Sule about the agreement reached by the Lafia APC stakeholders on the subject matter.

He also advised party faithful and other Nigerians against religious and ethnic politics.

The chairman called on the people of the constituency and the state at large to work for the victory of the lawmaker, the governor and other APC candidates in 2023

Responding, the member representing Lafia North Constituency at the state legislature appreciated them for the visit and assured of open door policy at all times.

“My door is open for discussion at all times in order to move the party forward and to ensure the success of the party beyond 2023,” he said.

Alkali, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, assured of his readiness to mobilise support for Gov. Sule and other APC candidates to succeed beyond 2023.

He also called on his constituents and other people in the state to support him, Sule and other candidates of the party to succeed beyond 2023.

The lawmaker also assured of effective and quality representation at the state legislature beyond 2023.

NAN also reporta that the APC award chairmen of Ciroma, Gayam, Makama, Zanwa, Keffi Wambai, Shabu/Kwandere, Akurba, Ashige, Adogi/ Ugah, Assakio, Arikiya, Agyaragu Tofa and Wakawa wards were present during the visit.

NAN recalls on that Nov.1, the Federal High Court, Lafia, presided by Justice Nehezina Afolabi, declared Alhaji Mohammed Alkali as the authentic and lawful winner of the direct primaries of the APC held on May 27, and duly monitored by the INEC.

The court held that all the preliminary objections by the 3rd Defendant, Juliana Dauda, the aspirant lacked merit. (NAN)
