Nasarawa vocational institute will generate jobs, boost IGR, says assembly

THE Nasarawa State House of Assembly says the establishment of  Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Technology Institute Lafia will provide job opportunities and  boost the Internally Generated Revenue ( IGR) of the state.

Danladi Jatau, the Speaker of the House, stated this while receiving the report of the House Standing Committee on  Education, Science and Technology on a Bill for a Law to establish the Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Technology Institute Lafia.

The speaker  said that the bill, if passed into lawby the executive, would give legal backing to the institute.

The institution is charged with the responsibility of training youths and other people of the state  in different skills.

Jatau fixed March 6 for deliberation on the report.

Earlier, Mr Abel Bala, the Chairman of the committee, while presenting the report, said that the bill was  to establish a vocational training institute

” Youths will be trained in different skills to enable  them to become self reliant, employers of labour and contribute positively to the development of the state and the society in general .

He also said that the law would stimulate the growth of the state economy and boost IGR in the state.

Bala appreciated Gov. Abdullahi Sule for initiating the bill towards training of the youth and other people of the state.

He also appreciated the speaker for finding them worthy of the assignment.

In a related development, the House says it will pass a bill for a law to amend College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia Nasarawa State 2020 and other Matters Connected Thereof on March 6.

Mr Danladi Jatau, the Speaker of the House, announced this after it deliberated on the report of its Standing Committee on the bill .

The speaker slated  March 6  for the passage of the bill, adding that it was  intended to change the nomenclature of the headship of the institution from Provost to Rector and Deputy Provost to Deputy Rector.

” I will slate Wednesday for the passage of the bill.

Earlier, Mr  Suleiman Azara, the Majority Leader, moved a motion for the adoption of the report and seconded by Mr Luka Zhekaba, the Minority Leader of the house.

The House unanimously adopted the report. (NAN)
