THE staff of National Hospital, Abuja, on Thursday eulogised the late Prof. Sunday Bwala, a consultant neurologist at the hospital.

The staff made the eulogy at the night of tribute and candle light procession organised in honour of Bwala who died on Feb. 10 at the age of 70 during a brief illness.

The deceased was described as a man of great values who had encouraged many to put in their best, particularly at the hospital.

Dr Jaf Momoh, the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital, described the deceased as a man who had imparted his wealth of knowledge on staff of the medical facility.

“Prof. Bwala was a well published professor in the medical and academic fields; he served at the University of Maiduguri for many years and rose to the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor.

“He worked abroad for many years and returned to Nigeria and started work at the National Hospital and later picked up appointment with the University of Abuja.

“He had help us to train five specialists to international standard in his 11 years with the National Hospital. He was energetic in his work, he usually came to work early and closed late,“ he said.

Momoh also conveyed to the Bwala’s family the condolences of the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, who prayed that the members would have the strength to bear the irreparable loss.

Dr Ogugua Osi-Ogbu, a genetic expert, also described the late Bwala as an embodiment of graceful ageing, thorough bred professional, humility exemplified and a respecter of all.

According to Osi-Ogbu, the deceased value people, connected with all regardless of who you are.

“Prof. impacted on everyone, he knew people by name, he always created joy and laughter on people wherever he went, he was humane,’’ she said.

The President, Association of Radiologists, Dr Jimoh Kamaldeen, described the deceased as a great teacher and mentor who made himself relevant all-around the country and among Nigerians in the diaspora.

“The deceased lived a life of humility, gentleness and despite his academic prowess, he was able to maintain a good life and pass on his God given talent to others,’’ he said.
