NIGERIA Junior Tennis Coach Ubale Mohammed has warned Athletes against the use of ban substances to attain success in the game.
Mohammed gave the warning on Tuesday in an interview with journalists, during his training tour to Ondo State at the Akure Sports Complex.
He also advised officials of the Ondo State Tennis Association against match fixing and to focus on their developmental programmes that made the state number one in talent discovery.
He commended the association for producing talents and national players such as Anu Aiyegbusi and many more, and encouraged the coaches and players not to relent, but be more committed.
Mohammed appealed to the state government for a quick renovation of the state tennis court which he said was not too good for a state that had been producing talents.
“My visit to the state will afford me a chance to pencil down some players that will be invited to the national camp slated for August this year in Abuja.
“My advice for the upcoming players is for them to be focused, committed to their training and ensure they do not involve in any use of ban drugs and match fixing,” he said.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Ondo State Tennis Association and a former player, Mr Stephenson Olateru-Olagbegi, said that both short and long term programmes had been listed for players in the state to help them attain their potentials.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that players, mostly of the junior categories participated in the one-day training exercise under the guide of the state coaches and officials and the national coach. (NAN)
