THE Sokoto state chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), has called for more actions against the increasing cases of rape as across communities in the country.
The association’s acting Chairperson, Hajia Rakiya Muhammad, in a statement on Monday in Sokoto, noted that the spate of rape in the country was worrisome.
She stressed the need for all stakeholders to prioritise the issue of violence against women and girls and tackle it frontally.
Muhammad urged authorities to uphold a zero-tolerance policy on violence against women and girls in the country.
“We urged governments and non-governmental organisations to explore innovative approaches to tackling the menace.
“We must smash this rape culture that has become so pervasive. All hands must be on deck to redress the situation as it affects everyone in society.
“There’s no justification for rape. Let’s join forces to take action against sexual assault. Let’s end the horrors. Yes, we can,’’ she noted. (NAN)
