THE National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI) says executing its mandate of managing its Technology Incubation Programmes (TIPs) is critical to attaining resource management and wealth-creation across the country.

NBTI’s acting Director-General, Mr Akinwumi Shomefun, said this on Wednesday in Abuja while addressing participants at the capacity-building programme on development of entrepreneurs and staff from the headquarters and centres.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that participants at the programme were drawn from NBTI’s 36 technology incubation centres (TICs) across the country.

Shomefun said the TIPs have to their credit over 3,000 technological, innovative and household items produced by entrepreneurs of the programme at various centres across the country.

He added that commercialising innovative ideas provides a myriad of job openings to the country’s teeming youths, creating wealth for the investors and revenue for government.

“ Therefore, in order to take charge in innovation in Nigeria and across the world, this capacity-building is important.

“The capacity-building programme is aimed at equipping NBTI staff with necessary tools to keep up with the ever-changing technological and entrepreneurship landscape in Nigeria,’’ the acting Director-General said.

He added that TIPs were designed by the Federal Government as a support programme with the intention of creating and nurturing budding value-added and technology-based enterprises.

“It is designed to speed up the commercialisation of technologies by effectively linking talents, technologies, capital and know-how in order to accelerate the development of new enterprises.

“Its main objective is to boost the industrial base of the country through the commercialisation of Research and Development (R&D) results, and upgrading and enhancing the application of indigenous technologies,’’ Shomefun said.

Similarly, NBTI’s Director of Human Resource Management, Mr. Abubakar Nuhu, said the training would equip staff with knowledge and skills required to enhance their productivity and contribute to economic development.

“The development of staff is a critical intervention that seeks to enhance the capacity of staff to achieve their full potential and contribute to the nation through efficient service delivery.

“The programme is designed to provide participants with a range of practical experiences, techniques, and insights that will enable them to excel in their various roles,” he said.

Nuhu also urged participants to see the training as an opportunity to network with other participants from various centres with a view to sharing views on best practices and learning from each other’s experiences.

NAN reports that the programme was organised by Virgriss Resources Limited in collaboration with NBTI.
