THE Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) says it has partnered with the Nigerian Correctional Service on train the trainer programme to engage the inmates to discover their creative talents.
Its Director-General, Dr John Asein, said this in Abuja on Tuesday at a two-day Sensitisation Workshop for Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service, organised by the Nigerian Copyright Commission.
Asein, who was represented by the Director, Legal Department of NCC, Mr Emeka Ogbonna, who said that some inmates were endowed with creative latents, said the commission wanted to build their capacity to engage in creative works after their jail terms.
The director-general said that the commission was responsible for matters relating copyright, saying that in view of these reasons, it decided to engage with the Nigerian Correctional Service involved in rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates.
According to him, the objective of the sensitisation is to raise awareness on the copyright uses and significances
In his remarks, the Controller-General, Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa commended the Nigerian Copyright Commission for partnering with the service to educate its officers on issues relating copyright.
Nababa, who was represented by the Deputy Controller-General, Training Staff and Development, Ahmed Tukur,
described creative industry as a powerful force for positive change and economic developments.
According to him, copyright is imperative to the protection of intellectual property of author, musician, visual artist, sounding recording and audio visual works. (NAN)
