NCC Tennis League: Plateau defeats Anambra in male, female categories

Plateau State Table Tennis team dominated their Anambra counterpart in some of the matches in the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), National Table Tennis League.
The Table Tennis championship served off at the Onitsha Sports Club in Anambra.
In the male singles category, Tochukwu Eze of team Anambra squared up against Thomas Otu of Tech Vibes Tennis Club representing team Plateau.
The first set saw Otu beating Eze 7-5 while Eze drew level in the second set with 6-3 win.
The pulsating encounter went into super tie-break in which Otu carried the day with 10-7 win.
In the second game, Joseph Ime of team Plateau beat his opponent Charles Nwandu of team Anambra in two straight sets 7-5, 7-5 to win the match.
In the women’s category, Stella Udokwere of team Anambra succumbed to superior fire power of Ammy Ayegbisi of team Plateau 6-1, 7-6 in two straight sets.
Speaking to newsmen, Director Public Affairs NCC, Nnamdi Nwokike said 12 teams are taking part in the championship across the six zones of the country.
Nwokike said that part of objectives of championship was to engage and empower Nigerian youth through the game of tennis and to enable the top players through prize monies and incentives launch themselves into professional cadre. (NAN)
