NIGERIAN Communications Commission, NCC, has pledged to continue to protect the rights of consumers by making sure telecom operators provide good quality service. It is also to sanction telecom operators whose services are poor.

Emilia Nwokoro, zonal coordinator, NCC, Enugu, stated this at a consumer forum organized by the commission at the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, adding that NCC would carry out public enlightenment programmes to educate and inform telecom subscribers of their rights to demand good quality service from network providers.

She said: “We    have continued to educate    telecom subscribers    on key topical areas such as unauthorized deductions,  sudden loss of credit, quality of service,    alleged cases of fraudulent withdrawals    from consumer  accounts , mobile number portability, data subscription and renewal, among others.

“Over the years, NCC has carried various enlightenment programmes to educate telecom subscribers on their rights. However, despite repeated awareness campaigns by the NCC, many Nigerians are yet to understand the role of NCC in the telecom industry.”
