NCC’s strategic plan will drive FG’s digital economy – Pantami
Business Briefs
ISA Pantami, minister of communications and digital economy, has said that the newly launched Strategic Management Plan, SMP, 2020-2024 by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, will be a pedestal to drive the implementation of the digital economy in the country. He said the launch of the SMP demonstrated the commission’s serious improvement in the performance matrix.
The minister stated this during the virtual launch of the NCC’s five-year strategic plan in Abuja on Tuesday, June 23. He said the launch had demonstrated the commission’s efforts in accelerating the implementation of the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, NDEPS, and the National Broadband Plan, NBP, 2020–2025 of the federal government.
“I feel very excited for the fact that there is a serious improvement in the performance of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC. The launch of this SMP 2020 – 2024 is a clear indication of that. When a parastatal is performing, it will create an innovative idea on how to be more successful. When a parastatal is not performing, you will not hear anything on how to implement policies and come up with different strategies and plans,” Pantami said.
According to NCC, the Strategic Management Plan, SMP, is a five-year plan with the objective to create a seamless strategy to augment its effective management and regulation of the telecommunications sector. The SMP is expected to leverage the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, NDEPS, as well as the new National Broadband Plan, NBP, 2020–2025 Roadmaps, to achieve the country’s digital economy drive.
It will cover the guiding principles and act as the operations manual for the commission towards actualising the digital economy agenda of the federal government in the next five years. The NCC said the SMP would be a vision document of the commission for planning, monitoring, analysing and assessment of the commission’s goals and objectives in the next five years.
